Anthropic describes Fable 5 and the restricted Mythos 5 as the same underlying capability tier with different safeguards. Public Fable traffic can fall back to Opus 4.8 for broad classes of biology, chemistry, and suspected model-distillation requests. A benchmark on ordinary software work therefore does not prove what a life-sciences or security workflow will receive.

That makes observability unusually important. Record model identifiers and fallback-relevant failures, build domain-specific tests, and do not promise Fable-level behavior to downstream users until the production route has been measured.

Fable costs twice as much as Opus 5 on the published input and output rates. The clean architecture is a cascade: try the cheaper frontier model, use verifiers to detect weak work, and send only the costly remainder to Fable. Using Fable for every summarization or classification request wastes the very capability premium you are paying for.
